In honor of Father’s Day, I missed my mark on writing about Manny yesterday, but here, I can shine again. Manny, from my story Manny, is a father born in New Mexico. He met his wife Jacqueline while she was on vacation in Santa Fe. At the time, he went to the Santa Fe University of Art and Design. They fell for each other quickly, and over time, moved to Georgia, to her home town (unspecified, but the county is: Gwinnett County) where the story takes place. They have two daughters, May and Anna.

Now, Manny is also religious. If you notice a trend in religious works… in my works, it is because the concept of theology fascinates me. Christianity is important in Ruby Caves, Manny, and the Prophet Series (Westward Prophets, Black Gospel City- as of yet unreleased, and The Prophet Judas- also as of yet unreleased). At any rate, Manny is in between jobs and takes the offer as a nighttime security guard for a large mall. During his time, a crazy man attempts to break in and then Manny learns that Native American mythology is very much alive, in the form of a thunderbird. Originally I had it as a group of zombies, but thought the thunderbird would be cool, because honestly, when has a thunderbird been the primary antagonist of a story?

A storm is raging, and we get their first introduction here:

Manny stared at the TV screen. The volume was turned up loud enough to be heard from where he was standing in the hallway. Suzy Kenmore, meteorologist, predicted a severe thunderstorm with wind gusts of up to forty-eight miles per hour. There was a one hundred percent chance of rain. Expect power outages. Expect damage to trees. Stay away from windows. A slight chance of hail was expected. Flash flood warnings were in effect for Cobb County, Forsyth County, and his very own Gwinnett County until 8:30 AM. He half expected Suzy to tell him one of the seven Seals would open and the Beast would rise out of the oceans.

At 12:45 AM he walked down the hallway, the click-click-click of his shoes announcing his entrance to the empty mall. His first patrol officially started. Manny pulled a small cross from under his shirt, kissed it and thought of four names: God, his wife Jacqueline, and his daughters May and Anna. The ritual comforted him.

His wife and daughters are mentioned again later, but this is the real time for them to work as an early peaceful moment before things go to shit. Manny gathers strength from knowing he has a loving family safe at home, protected by the violent storm. Tomorrow, or Thursday, I will talk about Devon Brady of Mutant Cowboy Space Pirate.
